When the Internet arrived, I — as did my colleagues — adopted it mostly for two reasons: 1) research — in place of the library, and 2) rote drills, such as supporting math practice. What used to require school buses and lots of time now is accomplished more effectively for less money through the Internet.

I removed all restrictions on technology and notes — how was I going to know if someone used a computer? This worked out really well since students got access to helpful resources and a break from time pressure, and I got more explanations of reasoning which led (in my view) to better data about student learning.
