I have the privilege of working with 2nd through 6th graders in my gifted education classes and Kindergarten through 6th grade in my summer STEM and robotics camps. Academic standards used by almost all schools are based on the false and incorrect belief of the average student.

But if you were reading a research article and the author used a sample size of n = 1, how would you react? It leads to "grade inflation" It violates some kind of academic machismo code that views student assessment like competition in an arena. One-and-done assessment is clearly a terrible way to measure student learning.
