So, a fellow student coached me in maths, and I started doing well in both physics and chemistry. This started my focus on applied environmental physics research.

When I was a teenager, I wanted to be an archaeologist and I studied history and art as well as maths and physics at A-level. After initially studying physics, I was based in an Earth Sciences department at a university for some time, studying how bacteria use metals to form magnetic materials on a very small scale.
