One’s not dealing with some (usually very expensive) “just for PDEs” package; what we now have is a “consumerized” way to handle PDEs whenever they’re needed—for engineering, science, or whatever. The Function Repository is more lightweight, the Paclet Repository more flexible. We’ve had “basic, raw NDSolve ” since 1991.
