The ozone holes allow harmful levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation to pass through our atmosphere. Thankfully, research in the field of atmospheric chemistry identified CFCs as the culprit, and subsequent efforts to reduce the use of these gases has led to a partial recovery of the ozone holes.
