In the forty years I knew Ed Fredkin I heard countless wild ideas and colorful stories from him. He used to like to tell people I’d learned a lot from him. And perhaps on the basis of that experience, he would still, even at the end of his life, matter-of-factly refer to himself as “the world’s best programmer”.
