Workshop #1: Using Picture Books for Powerful Science Learning

Dates/Times:

  • Tue, April 23 2024 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Synchronous Online

Overview:

In this 2-part online workshop, participants will work with Kirk Robbins and Jeff Ryan to discover multiple categories of science & STEM related picture books and consider intentional ways to use picture books to support powerful science & STEM student learning. A diverse set of picture books will be modeled and used in the sessions in multiple ways. The first 20 people to sign up will get a copy of a picture book.

Workshop #2: How to Support Talking, Thinking, and Writing in Elementary Science

Dates/Times:

  • Tue, May 7 2024 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Synchronous Online
  • Tue, May 14 202 44:00 PM – 6:00 PM Synchronous Online

Overview:

In this 2-part online workshop, participants will work with Kirk Robbins and Jeff Ryan to engage with multiple resources and use collaborative breakout rooms to dig into several tools and strategies for supporting all learners in talking, thinking about, and writing about their science and STEM learning. Participants will analyze and consider readings, video cases, case studies, and tools for supporting effective talk, thinking, and writing in science. Participants will have a brief asynchronous implementation task between the two sessions.
