Free Balloons Over Broadway Activity (Creativity Challenges)
Teachers, are you looking for some free resources for Balloons Over Broadway?
The Macy’s Parade is one of the most iconic Thanksgiving traditions. Balloons Over Broadway is our favorite book to help teach students about the history of the parade.
After teaching students about the parade have them plan and create their own parade balloon. As part of the planning process have students brainstorm different balloon ideas using our FREE Balloons Over Broadway Creativity Challenges.
What are creativity challenges?
Creativity Challenges are a great way to help students build creative stamina.
The goal of a creativity challenge is to help students think outside the box. In a creativity challenge, students are presented with a problem that they have to solve using their creativity. Typically these challenges are short lasting anywhere from 3-10 minutes.
By implementing these challenges on a regular basis students are able to exercise their creativity muscles.
6, 12, and 30 Balloons CREATIVITY CHALLENGE
The Balloons Creativity Challenge is an example of a creativity challenge that you can use in your classroom. You can complete this challenge after reading, Balloons Over Broadway, by Melissa Sweet.
Materials Needed:
Pencil
Timer
Colored Pencils, Crayons, Markers (optional)
Have students complete this challenge individually or with a partner.
The goal of the Balloons Creativity Challenge is for students to turn as many balloons as possible into recognizable objects in only 3 minutes. Choose the recording sheet based on the ages and needs of your students.
Before students begin, explain to them that the focus is not on the skill of the drawings. Rather, students should be more concerned with getting as many ideas generated as possible.
At the end of the challenge have students share the ideas that they came up with. You may also want to give students a few extra minutes at the end to improve their designs and color them.
Students may not get all of the balloons filled in. That is okay. This challenge can be completed multiple times throughout the year so that students can see their improvement.
