Well, as a pilot I dream of Alaska. Mudhole Smith and the other great bush pilots of Alaska – part of my personal hero posse – what can I say. Nowadays, I am typically tied to my crazy triple monitor system frantically trying to keep up with all the new things we are creating here at CTeL. STEM educator Jeff Hamlin at Hutchison High in Fairbanks will soon be turning out Alaska’s first industry certified mobile application developers.

Students can let Facebook auto generate the video, or they can put some thought into selecting meaningful pictures and posts to customize the video. This is a great activity because it opens up the conversation about digital citizenship.

'Innovative educators love presenting to tech-savvy audiences. It''s backchannel galore with as folks Tweet, tag, and hashtag away. It''s great fun to live Tweet from the stage and pull audience polls up while on stage. However there are times when I speak to an audience that simply isn''t quite that savvy. Texting to Poll Everywhere, Cel.ly, or asking folks to use a hashtag leaves audience members scratching their heads.

This search engine uses Flickr safe search as well as some built in filtering to find Creative Common licensed images. 'AR Flashcards - Animal Alphabet is an excellent free iOS app that uses augmented reality to help young students learn their alphabet. This app is highly engaging and brings dinosaurs/animals to life in stunning 3D when view a AR Flashcard from an iOS device. 'Biteslide is a wonderful web tool w/ educational portal that teachers are using to create beautiful looking slidebooks/presentations. This is all done through a very easy to use drag-n-drop interface and web browser plugin (a.k.a "Nibbler") for adding images, clipart, text and more. Educators are using this for Project Based Learning, creating dynamic digital stories/scrapbooks, and even "flipping their classroom.

'Storyboard That is one of my favorite new Web 2.0 sites for education. This amazing site w/ educational portal allows educators to create/manage student accounts while creating fun and engaging assignments. Educators around the world are using Storyboard That for project based learning, flipping a classroom, and much much more. Students can easily create a storyboard and then convert it into a slideshow, find writing prompts, character maps, etc etc.

Thanks to Libby’s dedication nobody who comes to the office is treated like a stranger. Libby is now about 50lbs with a tail that can clear a coffee table in the blink of an eye. From her picture you can tell that we are still waiting for her to grow into her ears, but if she doesn’t we won’t care. As part of our updates to our Biotech course we got Libby’s DNA done.

'Speaking Times Table HD is an excellent iOS app for kids wanting to learn their times tables. This is a fun app that uses a Monkey theme to learn their tables in a safe environment w/ fun filled graphics and sounds. Best of all, Speaking Times tracks student''s scoring and shows which problems they get wrong and what the correct answer is to help w/ learning.
