Solution :
There are 15 apples in 3 boxes.
Number of apples in 1 box :
= 15/3
= 5
Number of apples 7 boxes :
= 7 x 5
= 35
Problem 4 :
If there are 17 kilograms of a chemical powder in 5 bags, how many kilograms of the same chemical powder will be in 35 bags?
Solution :
There are 17 kilograms of powder in 5 bags.
5 bags ----> 17 kilograms
7(5 bags) ----> 7(17 kilograms)
35 bags ----> 119 kilograms
There will be 119 kilograms of chemical powder in 35 bags.
Problem 5 :
Mr. A divides $3600 equally into three parts. He keeps one pat for himself, one part for a charity and one part is divided equally among his three sons. Find the share of each son.
Solution :
$3600 is equally divided into three parts.
The value of each part :
= 3600/3
= $1200
Now, $1200 is divided equally among three sons.
The share of each son :
= 1200/3
= $400
Problem 6 :
A month before, Mr. James divided $2800 equally into two parts. He invested one of the parts in stock A and other in stock B. Now, investment in stock A is doubled and investment in stock B became half of it. Find the total value of both the investments now.
Solution :
$2800 is divided equally into two parts.
The value of each part :
= 2800/2
= $1400
Total values of both the investments now :
= 2(1400) + (1/2)(2500)
= 2800 + 0.5(2500)
= 2800 + 1250
= $4050
Problem 7 :
Mr. Richard buys five pizzas for the students in his class. There are 20 students in the class and each pizza has 8 slices. If each student gets equal amount pf pizza, find the number of slices each student gets.
Solution :
1 pizza has 8 slices.
Total number of slices in 5 pizzas :
= 5 x 8
= 40
So, 40 slices have to divided among 20 students.
Number of slices each student gets :
= 40/20
= 2
Problem 8 :
Ben walks around a circular yard. If it takes him 15 minutes to completely walk 1 time around, find the number of rounds he ill complete in 2 hours 30 minutes.
Solution :
15 minutes ----> 1 round
2(15 minutes) ----> 2(1 round)
30 minutes ----> 2 rounds
2(30 minutes) ----> 2(2 rounds)
60 minutes ----> 4 rounds
1 hour ----> 4 rounds
2(1 hour) ----> 2(4 rounds)
2 hours ----> 8 rounds
Number of rounds Ben will complete in 2 hours 30 minutes :
= 2 + 8
= 10
Problem 9 :
Lily divides 5 boxes of cookies equally among her 4 kids and each kid gets 25 cookies. Find the number of cookies in each box.
Solution :
1 kid ----> 25 cookies
4(1 kid) ----> 4(25 cookies)
4 kids ----> 100 cookies
So, there are 100 cookies in 5 boxes.
Number of cookies in each box :
= 100/5
= 20
Problem 10 :
A person does 8 units of work in a day. If 7 people work for 13 days, find the number of units of work completed.
Solution :
Number of units of work completed by 1 person in 1 day :
= 8
Number of units of work completed by 7 people in 1 day :
= 7 x 8
= 56
Number of units of work completed by 7 people in 13 day :
= 13 x 56
= 728
Problem 11 :
15 people complete 750 units of work in 10 days. On average, how many units of work does one person complete in one day?
Solution :
Number of units of work completed by 15 people in 10 days :
= 750
Number of units of work completed by 15 people in 1 day :
= 750/10
= 75
Number of units of work completed by 1 person in 1 day :
= 75/15
= 5
Problem 12 :
A jeweler can make 80 ounces of gold ornaments per day. If 100 lbs. gold ornaments are to be made in 5 days, how many jewelers are required?
Solution :
1 lb. = 16 ounces
100(1 lb.) = 100(16 ounces)
100 lbs. = 1600 ounces
1600 ounces of ornaments have to be made in 5 days.
1 jeweler in 1 day ----> 80 ounces
1 jeweler in 5 days ----> 5(80 ounces)
1 jeweler in 5 days ----> 400 ounces
Number of jewelers required to make 1600 ounces (1 lbs.) of ornaments in 5 days :
= 1600/400
= 4
