SIMPLIFYING FRACTIONS TRICKS

The following steps will be useful to simplify the a fraction to its lowest term or in its simplest form. 

Step 1 :

Write the numerator and denominator in synthetic division. 

Step 2 :

Divide the numerator and denominator by a common divisor as much as possible. 

Step 3 :

Continue the process explained in step 2 until you get a pair of numbers which do not have a common divisor other than 1. 

Now, write a fraction with these two numbers. 

This fraction is the simplest form of the given fraction. 

Simplify each fraction and write it in its simplest form.

Example 1 :

42/60

Solution :

The fraction 7/10 is the simplest form 42/60.

That is, 

42/60  =  7/10

Example 2 :

14/24

Solution :

The fraction 7/12 is the simplest form 14/24.

That is, 

14/24  =  7/12

Example 3 :

36/42

Solution :

The fraction 6/7 is the simplest form 36/42.

That is, 

36/42  =  6/7

Example 4 :

104/156

Solution :

The fraction 2/3 is the simplest form 104/156.

That is, 

104/156  =  2/3

Example 5 :

45/255

Solution :

The fraction 3/5 is the simplest form 45/255.

That is, 

45/255  =  3/5

Example 6 :

54/153

Solution :

The fraction 6/17 is the simplest form 54/153.

That is, 

54/153  =  6/17

Example 7 :

9/18

Solution :

The fraction 1/2 is the simplest form 9/18.

That is, 

9/18  =  1/2

Example 8 :

18/30

Solution :

The fraction 3/5 is the simplest form 18/30.

That is, 

18/30  =  3/5

Example 9 :

21/27

Solution :

The fraction 7/9 is the simplest form 21/27.

That is, 

21/27  =  7/9

Example 10 :

12/28

Solution :

The fraction 7/10 is the simplest form 12/28.

That is, 

12/28  =  3/7
