How I Met My Monster STEM Challenge

Integrate STEM in your classroom this Halloween with a Monster STEM Challenge!

In the story How I Met My Monster we learn about how Ethan finds his perfect monster, Gabe. Gabe has neon-green fur, a spiked tail, and bright red eyes.

After reading How I Met My Monster, challenge your students to think about what their perfect monster would look like. Then have them design and create their own name monster.

Material List:

  • Cardstock

  • Scissors

  • Color Sticks, Crayons, or Markers

  • Pencils

  • STEM Journal

  • How I Met My Monster by Amanda Noll

After reading How I Met My Monster by Amanda Noll challenge your students to think about their perfect monster. Then, have students create their own name monster by following the steps below.

Step 1: Fold a piece of cardstock in half. Keep the fold pointed towards you.

Step 2: Have students write their name along the fold.

Step 3: Have students cut around the outside of their name.

Step 4: Have students unfold the paper and create their unique name monster.

After students finish creating their monsters, have them write a story about how they met their monster.
