I Need My Monster STEM Challenge

Integrate STEM in your classroom this Halloween with a Monster STEM Challenge!

In the story I Need My Monster the boy’s monster Gabe leaves to go fishing.

Challenge your students to design a replacement monster for the boy while his monster is away.

Material List:

  • 1 Container of Play-Doh

  • 10 Toothpicks

  • 4 Pipe Cleaners

  • Googly Eyes

  • STEM Journal

  • I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll

After reading I Need My Monster by Amanda Noll challenge your students to create a new monster for the boy. Students should use the criteria from the story to make sure that their monster fits the description of what the boy is looking for (a boy monster with a scary name and a tail).

For more of a challenge have students create a monster that can stand on its own. You can also give students a height requirement of at least 6 inches tall.

After the STEM challenge is complete, have students write a letter to the boy to practice their persuasive writing skills. In the letter students should write about why their monster would make a good substitute monster for the boy.
