4 Ways to Celebrate Women's History Month with STEM!

March is Women's History Month, a time to celebrate the contributions of women throughout history.

One way to commemorate this important month is by teaching about women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields. There are many inspiring women who have made significant contributions to STEM.

4 Ways to celebrate Women’s History Month with STEM:

By teaching about their achievements, we can inspire a new generation of girls to pursue careers in these fields. We have created Women’s History Month Bundles 1 and 2 for you to use in your classroom.

All STEM Challenges are also included as part of the STEM Teachers Club Membership.

1. Introduce students to women in STEM fields.

Start by introducing students to some of the amazing women who have made significant contributions to STEM fields. Use the biographies and other resources in the READ ALOUD STEM Activities BUNDLE to share stories of women like Ada Lovelace, Raye Montague, Grace Hopper, and Mae Jemison.

2. Conduct experiments inspired by women in STEM.

For example, you could do an experiment inspired by astronaut Mae Jemison, who was the first African American woman to go to space. In the experiment, students can learn about propulsion and how rockets go to space.

3. Encourage students to create their own inventions.

Many women in STEM were inventors or innovators in their fields. After learning about these women, encourage students to think about their own ideas for inventions or innovations that could make a difference in the world.

You could have students create a robot arm inspired by Dr. Ellen Ochoa using materials like cardboard, string, straws, and paper.

4. Use coding to teach about women in STEM.
