Energy… Part 2 — Science is Sociopolitical

PHYSICS! BLOG!

Last summer, I had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Energy & Equity summer workshop (link takes you to the portal; find the current workshop info through links on that page). This Energy… Part 2 unit is meant to come after a typical conservation of energy unit. Energy as a Sociopolitical Concept.

How Low-Carb Diets Fuel High-Achieving Students

Ask a Tech Teacher

Enhanced Focus and Energy Maintaining razor-sharp focus and boundless energy has always been the secret sauce for high-achieving students. They can also increase your energy , but most studies focus on short term effects. They can also increase your energy , but most studies focus on short term effects.

Fundamentals checks for AP Physics *2*

Jacobs Physics

Last year I wrote a bunch of fundamentals checks in preparation for the AP physics 1 or C-mechanics exams. This year, I'm teaching a physics 2 section. Write the equation for the energy carried by a photon. eV of kinetic energy. So, I'm writing daily quizzes for P2 now! Quiz 1: 1. A substance has index of refraction 1.5.

AP Physics 2 - fundamentals review #3

Jacobs Physics

With three weeks to go before the AP physics exams, it's worth remembering that our students don't need MORE practice problems ; rather, they need to pay careful attention to the practice problems they do. In AP Physics 2, which is a second-year course, students have already internalized that they must pay attention to what they do.

Energy of various systems in an inelastic collision

Jacobs Physics

Well, Anthony (whom Edna calls a mean hippopotamus) says that the carts don't move after collision - they both have the same energy but in opposite directions, which cancel. Let's start with the fact that energy is a scalar quantity - energy can't have direction at all, let alone "cancel" other forms of energy.

Why use energy bar charts?

Jacobs Physics

The usefulness of graphical representations over straight-up equations and calculations for understanding energy concepts has been well established in physics teaching literature for years. I resisted teaching energy bar charts for nearly the first two decades of my career - mainly for point (3) above.

Your Own Energy Story Mini Project

PHYSICS! BLOG!

This post describes a project that follows the Energy… Part 2 unit. This project was created in collaboration with Allie Boyd at the Energy & Equity summer workshop (link takes you to the portal; find the current workshop info through links on that page). If you haven’t read about that (new!)
